Since 2019, MassTrails has been championing a growing network of over 1,000 miles of trails and paths across Massachusetts.

These ten featured rides showcase the state’s signature trail infrastructure—connecting communities, landscapes, and experiences. Whether you're looking for a quick local ride or planning a weekend adventure across the Commonwealth, there’s a trail waiting for you.

Neponset River Greenway

A 10-mile paved trail through marshlands and wooded landscapes, great for families and cyclists of all levels

Charles River Greenway

A 9-mile route along both sides of the Charles River, with an optional 3-mile add-on

Cape Cod Rail Trail

A family-friendly, flexible-distance route that highlights the joy of experiencing the Cape by bicycle

Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

A longer route featuring historic railroad crossings, and an option to use local bikeshare

Ashuwillticook Rail Trail

A longer route with views of the highest mountain in the state, and a state-designated Local Scenic River

Mass Central
Rail Trail Norwottuck Branch

An 8-mile ride featuring bridges, mountain views, and intersections with other trails and paths

Nashua River Rail Trail

A 100% on-trail out-and-back route of flexible distance, making it great for families and cyclists of all levels

Northern Strand Community Trail

A 13-mile route with ample trail art, pocket parks for pausing to rest, and an option to end at the beach

Minuteman Bikeway

A 100% on-trail, transit-friendly route along this Hall of Fame-inducted trail

Blackstone River Greenway

A family-friendly 5-mile route within a National Heritage Corridor

MassTrails is an inter-agency initiative of the Commonwealth led by the Governor’s Office in collaboration with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation. MassTrails 10 is a prototype in collaboration with DCR, MassDOT, the Office of Outdoor Recreation, the Office of Travel and Tourism, and HUBLUV.
