Since 2019, MassTrails has been championing a growing network of over 1,000 miles of trails and paths across Massachusetts.

These 10 featured rides showcase some of the state’s signature trail infrastructure — connecting communities, landscapes, and experiences. Whether you're looking for a quick local ride or planning a weekend adventure across the Commonwealth, there’s a trail waiting for you.

The MassTrails 10 collection aims to increase interest in all shared-use paths in Massachusetts. Click on a trail tile below the map to find a curated ride, transportation information, route amenities, and links to relevant partners.

Neponset River Greenway

A 10-mile paved trail through marshlands and wooded landscapes, great for families and cyclists of all levels

Charles River Greenway

A 9-mile route along both sides of the Charles River, with an optional 3-mile add-on

Cape Cod Rail Trail

A family-friendly, flexible-distance route that highlights the joy of experiencing the Cape by bicycle

Learn about MassTrails and its partners
MassTrails is an inter-agency initiative of the Commonwealth led by the Governor’s Office in collaboration with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation. MassTrails 10 is a prototype in collaboration with DCR, MassDOT, the Office of Outdoor Recreation, the Office of Travel and Tourism, and HUBLUV. The project aims to understand whether highlighting a "starter pack" of trails creates an invitation for people to explore more of the network.
